NEW BOOKS

Bellevue by Robin Cook. A first-year resident experiences life-shattering visions that reveal the truth behind some of the greatest medical advances in the history of medicine.

The Courting of Bristol Keats by Mary E. Pearson. After losing both their parents, Bristol Keats and her sisters struggle to stay afloat. When Bristol begins to receive letters from an “aunt” she’s never heard of who promises she can help, she discovers that everything she thought she knew about her family is a lie. Desperate to save her father and find the truth, Bristol journeys to a land of gods and fae and monsters.

Defense Protocol by Tom Clancy and Brian Andrew and Jeffrey Wilson. For decades, Taiwan has been a thorn in the side of the Chinese government. New Chinese President Li Jian Jun has devised a secret military operation to take the island. Meanwhile, Lt. Commander Katie Ryan is deployed on the USS Jason Dunham to defend Taiwan and under pressure to find a flaw in the invaders’ plan for her father to exploit.

Exposure by Ramona Emerson. A dual-voice cat-and-mouse thriller, told from the points of view of a killer who has created his own deadly religion and the only person who can stop him, an embattled young detective who sees the ghosts of his Native victims.

I Think I was Murdered by Colleen Coble and Rick Acker. “It’s a high-octane thriller with the grounding touches of Katrina’s Norwegian heritage, the hygge of North Haven, and a very sweet romance between two likable, vulnerable people. Romantic suspense comfort food–just like waffles with cloudberry cream.” –KIRKUS

Mina’s Matchbox by Yoko Ogawa; translated from the Japanese by Stephen Snyder. Rich with the magic and mystery of youthful experience, Mina’s Matchbox is an evocative snapshot of a moment frozen in time-and a striking depiction of a family on the edge of collapse.

Mothers’ Instinct by Barbara Abel. A 2024 US motion picture starring Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chastain, Mothers’ Instinct is a dark, twisty domestic thriller in which the bond between two couples—best friends and next-door neighbors—mutates in dangerous and deadly ways in the wake of a tragic accident.
